Military Relocation to Maryland

Military relocation to Maryland

As the wife, daughter, and grand-daughter of veterans, helping active duty military families with a PCS move is a labor of love for me. Wes Foster, the co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Long & Foster, is a veteran. Assisting you and your family with the purchase of your next home or the sale of your current home will be a privilege for us.

You have enough to worry about with your military relocation to Maryland, and finding an agent who “gets” the issues you face in a military move should not be one of them. I’ve been there and done that – relocating to an unknown area, far from family and friends… having and raising children with my spouse deployed in a war zone… and making important business decisions on my own.

We moved to Crofton when my husband Larry received orders to the U.S. Naval Academy as an instructor after four years aboard the USS Duluth, LPD-6. We were attracted to the community initially by its convenience to the Naval Academy, and the greater Crofton area is equally convenient to Fort George G. Meade and Joint Base Andrews. It would be difficult to find a more military-friendly community than Crofton, where American flags fly over the main street year-round, an Armed Forces Day parade takes place annually, and a Blue Star Memorial Marker greets visitors to the local library.

I look forward to helping you find the right community for your family, whether it’s Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton, Davidsonville, Gambrills, Millersville, Odenton, or another in the D.C.-Baltimore-Annapolis triangle.  Just enter “Military Relocation to Maryland” in the subject line of the Contact Form at the bottom of this page and send your search criteria to me in the message section of the form. I’ll respond to you within hours, if not sooner.

If you’re leaving this area, contact me to explore your options: Should you rent or sell your current home? Should you rent or buy at your destination? How will you find a military-friendly agent at your destination?

Unique qualifications for a military-friendly agent

Chances are good that you or your spouse will not be here for the entire home buying or selling process during your military relocation to or from Maryland. That’s why it’s important for you to choose a real estate agent who has the experience, knowledge, skills, and willingness to handle certain details on your behalf that may not be required for most clients.

Five questions to ask a REALTOR® before you hire them to find or sell a home for you:

Military Residential Specialist

      1. Have you earned the Military Residential Specialist (MilRES®) professional designation through advanced training for addressing the unique situations faced by military clients?
      2. Are you tech-savvy and comfortable with secure electronic signatures, communicating via Skype or Facetime, sending photos and documents online, and texting to communicate across different time-zones?
      3. Do you have established affiliations with inspectors, contractors, real estate attorneys, and local lenders who will communicate with me and work for me, as needed?
      4. Have you “been there, done that” as a service member or military spouse?
      5. Will another member of your team be my primary contact or will you work with me personally from start to finish?

If a move to or from this area is in your future, write “Military Relocation” in the subject line of the Contact Form at the bottom of this page, and use the message section to provide information about yourself and your pending move so I can reply with appropriate information.

Military thank you program

Margaret Woda and Long & Foster Real Estate say “Thank you for your service”  by offering a Military Relocation to Maryland program to eligible active duty, reserve, or retired military personnel when you choose us as your agent and broker for buying or selling a home in Maryland. There are no restrictions on the buyers’ choice of lender, and the rebate amount equals or exceeds the USAA and credit union programs. Use the contact form below to ask for details.

Eligible veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who are not current active duty, reserve, or retired military will receive a home warranty at closing from Margaret and Long & Foster, as our way of saying to you, “Thank you for your service.”  To determine your eligibility, use the contact form below.

Operation Christmas is my annual pet project – a community-wide effort to fill holiday gift bags for deployed troops, with hands-on involvement by my Long & Foster colleagues and my friends at Crofton Village Garden Club. We’ve sent nearly a thousand holiday gift bags to Operation Give for distribution overseas to the U.S. Armed Forces since we began in 2006.
