College Park is home to the University of Maryland flagship campus and, since 1994, the U.S. Archives. It's also home to thousands of permanent residents who occupy older homes within walking distance of the campus and a METRO station. While many of the homes near campus are rental properties, the City of College Park is making an effort to increase the number of owner-occupants by offering a $5,000 grant to any homebuyer who converts a rental property to owner-occupied home.

College Park Airport is the oldest continuously operating airport in the United States and is one of the oldest airports in the world, having been in continuous operation since 1909.
