Bowie

Bowie, Maryland (20715, 20716, 20720, 20721)

Bowie MDThe City of Bowie is located at the crossroads of Rt. 50 and Rt. 3/301, about halfway between Washington, D.C. and Annapolis, with Baltimore, Maryland, to the North. This community has grown from a small agricultural and railroad town to one of the largest and fastest growing cities in Maryland.

The historical significance of this area is showcased through exhibits at the Belair Mansion, the Belair Stable Museum, the Bowie Railroad Station, and the Huntington Museum. One of the city’s best kept secrets is the Radio and Television Museum operated by the Radio History Society.  The racetrack that stands abandoned on Racetrack Road, probably destined for future development, was once the home of world-class thoroughbred horse racing.

This is a city of 16 square miles and approximately 50,000 residents, with nearly 2,000 acres set aside as parks or open space. There are 72 ball fields, three community centers, an ice arena, a theatrical playhouse, a golf course, three museums and a minor league ballpark housing the Bowie Baysox. (Not to mention the fabulous shopping, dining and commuting options.)

There truly is no shortage of things to do for local residents, regardless of your age or interests.

Joint Base Andrews, the U.S. Naval Academy and Fort Meade are only about a half hour away, so the city is home to many military and civilian families seeking an affordable home in a convenient location within commuting distance of work.  A park ‘n ride lot on Northview Drive provides residents easy access to/from the New Carrollton Metro Station, via express bus.

The motto of “Growth, Unity and Progress” provides a fitting description of this municipality today, with its exceptional quality of life.
