Millersville

Millersville, Maryland (21108)

Millersville, Maryland, is located just north of Crofton along the Rt. 3 corridor. The community is adjacent to Severna Park and it may be hard, at times, to know exactly where one stops and the other starts.

In 1841, the first Post Office to be established along the Annapolis & Elkridge Railroad (A&E) was built here and  the community was named for the first Postmaster, George Miller. The A&E was one of the earliest rail lines in the nation, connecting Annapolis with the Washington Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O).

George Miller’s home, general store, and post office is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Childs Residence. It served as the general store and post office for 130 consecutive years and is now home to the Anne Arundel County Trails Program.

Today’s Millersville is a bedroom community to Baltimore and Annapolis, about a half hour to each.
